Ultimatums
A collection was once taken as a going away present for the departments domineering boss. One department member was overheard asking, "When is he leaving?" Swift came the reply, "No time soon but we want to be ready when he does!" While it's important to respect others - it's important to remember that at times, you can't do your job without annoying them. You're better off trying to persuade or negotiate a settlement with others because when you use ultimatums you could win the battle yet lose the war. He that complies against his will is of his own opinion still. Tell when you have to, sell your ideas when you can. When you're clear about what you want done and allow others the freedom to choose how, they more willingly participate. Having said that ultimatums are sometimes necessary. Five things you should know about ultimatums: 1. Don't like them. |
