Avoid the "That'll never Work" Response

Avoid the "That'll never work" response. Nothing shuts down a conversation faster than a good judgmental comment. Ever been involved in a brain-storming session and had someone say, "That's stupid." Listen to the excuses, justifications and defensiveness that follow. Avoid the show stoppers that order, threaten, challenge, moralize, lecture, criticize, blame… Instead question with the intent to discover the thoughts behind the person's comments. The individual will remain more open and willing to contribute.
